The way we run our business in this modern-day is very different as compared to the traditional way. Due to the rise of modern technology, many companies have already integrated technology as part of their daily business operations, as it is believed to reduce cost and maximize efficiency.
Technology is indeed ever-changing, and the advancement of technology is so quick that sometimes we find it hard to catch up or even unaware of what's coming next. This sentiment is wholly related to those in specific fields such as warehouse, distribution, and logistic. Many of the e-commerce retailers are stepping up their games by re-strategizing their business by introducing new technology, new automation, and robots in their supply chain management.
AIDC is known as Automated Identification and Data Capture system, and it's mostly used in business operations to track the data or Information of the stocks using technology. In this article, we will briefly explain some of the technology used by businesses today, and they are:
Barcode is one of the oldest successfully technology being used by most of the companies today. If you are unsure what a barcode is, you can have a look at the cereal box, bottles of spread jam, the beverage bottles, and all the products in the supermarkets. All the products in the supermarkets will have unique barcodes.
A bar code is a collection of black and white stripes with a different thickness that is tagged on each product. In each barcode, there are about ten to twelve linear barcodes. You can also refer to barcodes as EAN or JAN, as they meant the same thing. In each barcode, you will see alpha-numerical codes on it. So, the business can retrieve Information such as product name, price, weight, manufacturing date, batch number, etc.
Unlike the regular barcode, 2D barcodes incorporate squares, rectangles, hexagons, dots, and other geometric patterns. They are better than the standard barcode as they can store a more significant amount of data with smaller space. 2D barcodes are generally used in warehouses, distributions, logistics, and even the healthcare industry. QR code is one type of 2D barcode that is commonly used by many businesses. Some organization chooses 2D barcodes as it helps companies to increase their efficiency, reduce error, and save the employees time.
Radio Frequency Identification System (RFID)
RFID is one of the top demands of most businesses due to its sophisticated and up-to-date technology. RFID is also known as wireless communication using the electromagnetic field to read and capture Information based on the tag attached to a particular product without any direct contact. Tags will be assigned to every product to identify and track them throughout the entire supply chain process.
For example, if a shipment has arrived, you'll attach tags or chips on the individual products, pallets, or even boxes. The RFID tags will then transmits Information captured by the reader and send it to the Information to the central database where a warehouse management system can analyze the data.
